Tree Skills

Forest Scene

// Forestry for schools

I am able to successfully pitch the delivery at a level that is non-threatening and stimulating. Students react enthusiastically and find the industry perspective refreshing.

Primary Students
It is never too early to link learning at school with the world of work. I offer classes that cover conceptual material covering plant physiology, tree growth and care. I introduce the different sectors of the industry using the Forestry Insights material.

Where practicable, I am also happy to take small groups into the field to give children the opportunity to experience the forestry environment and industry firsthand. Past examples have included visits to local forests and one group of children working on their school’s own forestry plot.

Secondary Students
I offer unit standard-based training to secondary students under the STAR and Gateway initiatives.

The unit standards usually requested cover workplace safety in the forest, basic firefighting, and knowledge of forestry operations. These serve as a useful prerequisite to workplace experience in the industry under STAR or Gateway, and also equip those students keen on a forestry career with the initial knowledge and skills required by industry.
